Monfalcone, northeastern Italy, Adriatic Sea coast.
Angela is a 50-year-old widow. Her husband died of lung cancer caused by asbestos dust inhaled when he was a worker. Angela works as a cleaner at the hospital, where she discovers that Francesco, her husband's former employer, has been hospitalized due to a stroke. There she meets Francesco's son, who is struck by Angela's kindness and, unaware of the bond between the two, offers her to work as a caregiver for her father once he is discharged. Since Francesco has avoided a conviction, Angela accepts the offer to punish him, but she soon realizes that she is unable to hurt him. Angela doesn't give up. Engulfed by her anger and obsession, she decides to give Francesco a taste of his own medicine: condemning him to loneliness. She tries to separate father and son, risking everything that remains to her: her best friend, her daughter, her dignity. Her plan seems to work, until Francesco's son discovers the reason for her presence, ruining the house of cards she had built. When all seems lost, Angela decides to face her enemy for the last time, to tell the truth about her, to reveal to his son who her father really is. In the deep darkness she has fallen into, Angela discovers an unexpected truth. If the culprit - the perpetrator - becomes his own victim, revenge can turn into forgiveness and a new beginning can be possible.
